Black Racer

Black racer (Coluber constrictor Priapus):

Dark black in appearance, the black racer is very active during the day, which will up your chances of seeing one on your dog walk. They can grow to be an average of around 3 feet in length. They are very confrontational, and may attempt to frighten larger animals through aggressive charging, but will otherwise flee when unsuccessful. They eat anything they can wrap around, and as part of the constrictor family, will generally attempt to suffocate or crush its prey. They are great climbers and often catch birds and other prey within the trees. The black racer is not venomous, but is easily confused with the venomous cottonmouth due to their very similar white chins.
