Poison Ivy

Poison Ivy

Poison Ivy (Toxicodendron radicans):

This is a common plant with a sordid reputation. It likes dry areas, wet areas, bright sunlight, and shaded areas.  It likes edges, woodlands, waste areas and fields. It is difficult to identify because it grows in so many habits: vine, creeper, shrub, and herb-like. Sometimes the leaves are shiny, dull, red, green, toothed, smooth, and so on.  The leaves come in three, but then so do many other ground plants.  The berries come in white clumps and are eaten by at least a hundred species of birds.  It is just humans that have the hypersensitivity reaction. Dogs can carry the oil on their fur if they have been running through it.
