Bling is back! As one of our beloved boarders, Bling the African Sulcotta tortoise has returned to spend his winter months at the Center. This is after spending another beautiful Summer with his loving family in Cambridge. Bling is a big hit at NEWC, and is often seen roaming up and down the halls during his few daily laps around the building. Hailing from the Sahara in Africa, Sulcotta (aka Spur Thigh) tortoises are well protected from predators by way of their large shells and rough, spike-laden legs. He weighs in at roughly 50 pounds, and is about 20 years. He is able to grow to be an astonishing 200 pounds and can live to be roughly 85 years old. Bling is an herbivore, and we often see his eyes light up when given a plate of food that includes strawberries, one of his favorites. We welcome you to come down and say hello to Bling or to the many educational animals we currently care for. New England Wildlife Center offers boarding services year round through our Exotic Veterinary practice, The Odd Pet Vet. If you ever find yourself in need of someone to take care of your pets, give us a call at 781-682-4878.
