American Bullfrog

American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus):

The American bullfrog leads an aquatic lifestyle, preferring to reside in swamps, ponds, and lakes. They feed on whatever they can fit down their throats, and are targeted by large birds, such as the heron, and other large mammals and reptiles. They are normally a muddled green in color, with bright green upper lip and yellow throat. Their croak sounds like that of a bull, which is what gives the frog its name. They use their croaks to defend their territory during breeding season, and are known to form choruses as they continually compete for female attention. Females lay a surprising number of eggs, up to 20,000! Many of these eggs will be eaten by predators, and those who become tadpoles must survive a tough journey to adulthood.
