Tiger Lily

Tiger Lily

Tiger Lily (Lilium superbum):

Tiger lilies are named after their resemblance to a tiger and its stripes; the lily produces a large 3 inch bright orange flower that commonly has black freckles throughout the petals. They are surprisingly easy to grow and don’t require much special care, which makes them a great addition to any garden. The flower has a very sweet smell to it. The tiger lily is almost fully edible, and has a significant medicinal use. The bulbs of the plant are often sold at Asian markets, and can be added to a dish to increase its flavor. The bulbs can also be baked and eaten like a potato. The plant used to be used to assist in easing nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.
