Wildlife and Exotic Animal Veterinary Internship Program

A full-immersion experience

A Care-Based Approach to Science Education

Thank you for considering New England Wildlife Center to further your veterinary, environmental, and science education!

Students from all over the world come to work and study at New England Wildlife Center’s (NEWC) wildlife hospital and Odd Pet Vet, an exotic animal veterinary practice located at NEWC.

The wildlife hospital and Odd Pet Vet can treat 225 different species of animals. Thousands of wild animals including birds, raptors, mammals, and reptiles receive care at our wildlife hospital in South Weymouth and at our affiliate Cape Wildlife Center in Barnstable.

Our internship program specializes in full-immersion apprentice-style job training.

Undergraduate students and high school students participating the program gain valuable first-hand experience in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), veterinary medical technology, medicine, and natural history. Many students go on to veterinary school, but many others plan to work or study in other science-related fields.

Who Participates in the Program?

The NEWC internship program is open to students age 17 and older.

Undergraduates come to us from schools including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Boston University, Boston College, Mt. Ida College, Becker College, Dartmouth, Bowdoin, Colby, and the Universities of Virginia, New Hampshire, Maine, Alaska, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maryland, and many more.

New England Wildlife Center is also committed to including students from community colleges and to offering this learning opportunity to students who may not ordinarily participate in internship programs.
